- How to disassemble footcontrol for old motorguide trolling motor?
I have an old motorguide trolling motor that doesn't work. A friend gave me his working motorguide, but the switch on the foot pedal doesn't work. The switch on my broken motor does work, so I wanted to swap the switches. The switch is that one on the pedal itself that lets you pulse the motor (not the three way swich below the speed control). I am afraid to just swap the entire foot control because my old one is 12 volt and the new one is 24 volt. Also, I don't want to take apart the motor head if I can avoid it. I have taken all of the screws off of the bottom of my foot control, but it won't come apart. The base is still stuck on there. I have tried prying gently with a screwdriver, but it is definitly attached somehow. Any ideas how to get it apart?
A Are you sure there isn't a pin that runs threw the side for the foot control. It may have one that has to be removed. It should have a clip on one end of it. Other wise, remember they are sealed to make them water proof. If that's the case. put a scraper between it and pry it gently. It most luckily has a ridge and gasket in it, that is meant to seal it water tight. Do not put a 12 volt switch on a 24 volt system. It will burn up. Good luck.

- How do I hook up my motorguide trolling motor?
My buddy gave me a 24-volt motorguide Brute trolling motor out of his old Ranger boat. The motor has a plug that goes into a receptical on the bow. He gave me the receptical and I am trying to figure out how to hook it up ( I forgot to pay attention to how it was connected when we tested it) The plug is a 4-pronged plug and the receptical has 4 screws that connected to the 4 battery leads (2 pos and 2 neg). It is not your typical 24-volt hookup where you connect neg of one battery to the pos of the other. In his boat, the pos and neg of both batteries were connected directly to the plug receptical. The screws on the back of the receptical are numbered 1, 2, 3 and 4. Any idea how I should connect these? I don't want to blow up the motor or my batteries.
A Ranger has it's own setup for the 24 TM. there are male and female 12v and 24v, and there are male and female all 24v setups. if you have a straight 24, i'll assume that, + battery 1 to #3 and - battery 1 to #1. then, + battery 2 to #2 and - battery 2 to #4. maybe that will help.
